Speech Pathology

Speech therapy at Hawkesbury Living is delivered by a needs basis according to discharge plans made by the hospital and in response to changes identified by a registered nurse. The General practitioner also may refer to speech therapy for further assessment.

Speech therapy has two main arms-

  1. the assessment a person’s ability to swallow safely and the management of a modified diet and
  2. the assessment and treatment of speech problems such as aphasia, dysphasia or other speech impediments.

Most of the work for a speech therapist in residential care centers around the first category.

Speech therapy is provided by Emma Clifton of Progressive Speech Pathology.
